The American Flag
The American flag flies to remind us of our mission in life. Many shed their blood and gave their lives for what they felt was right. The American flag stands for freedom and equality. America as a country has made mistakes on the way to this reality. The perfect system has not yet come into place. Greed and corruption still can be found, deeply rooted in the system. We are not helpless. We can try to vote those powers out.
The American flag flies to remind us of the sons, daughters, mothers and fathers that have left us to make the world a better place, Their sacrifice, in the face of death unyielding: To live with humility and respect all, Yet fear none.
The American flag flies to remind us we can say what needs to be said to bring this dream to reality. The flag has burned in protest, even though it represents the freedom to do so. The fabric will flame, but fire can only shed light on what the symbol stands for.
The American flag flies to remind us of the peace we long for. The evil in the world is real, and strength is our saving grace. We can not befriend some enemies and expect peace; Some wish us dead unconditionally.
The American flag flies because the United States of America is the steward of hope for every nation: Those hoping to grow old in a safe community, Those working for a better life for their family, Those who wish for world peace. The flag is only a symbol, but these are things it stands for.
The American flag flies for God the creator; Be God the big bang theory, Buddha, Allah or Christ. God bless us all. ©David Saltern 2009
